The artist known for his support of other artists sees the light.
Kanye West has reportedly donated $10 million to the Turrell Art Foundation to help fund artist James Turrell’s Roden Crater Project.
In a statement to The Wall Street Journal, West said that he wants the Roden Crater Project to be “experienced and enjoyed for eternity.”
West hasn’t talked much about what draws him to Turrell’s work, apart from an interview with David Letterman on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, where he discussed the artist’s work in the context of mental health and light therapy, saying, “His lights turn you into a zen state.”
In the summer of 2019, West filmed “JESUS IS KING” for Imax which brings his famed Sunday Service to life in the Roden Crater, never-before-seen installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert.
This one-of-a-kind experience features songs arranged by West in the gospel tradition along with new music from his latest album “JESUS IS KING”.
