‘Tracks’ by Karoline H. Larsen and ÅF Lighting

TRACKS is a permanent site-specific light art installation in two passageways at Blågårds Square in Copenhagen. This area is considered as one of Copenhagen’s toughest areas. Previously, the passageways were very dark and felt unsafe, since the light continuously was vandalized by criminal groups who wanted to do business in shelter of the dark. With a desire to make the area feel more secure, welcoming and attractive a competition regarding light art in the passageways was issued. Artist Karoline H. Larsen won the competition on her TRACKS concept with ÅF Lighting as light designers. The lighting is specially designed to be extremely vandal-proof and this leaves the passageways as a bright, secured and welcoming urban environment which brings life to the area.
