Your Point of View is a series of lighting sculptures developed by Studio De Schutter, in partnership with Döllken Lighting. The concept is based on the theory of Gestalt psychology and toys simultaneously with the simplicity and complexity of our perception and the multi-faceted reality that surrounds us. It sees itself as a trigger for a change of perspective.
What is your point of view when aesthetic sensitivity, meaning and personal attitude depend purely on our visual perspective? Should we change our emotional or geographical standpoint, and thus our interpretation? The installations invite you to see with different eyes and to reflect on your view.
Secondly, as Gestalt psychology states, the basic shapes of circle, rectangle and triangle serve as mythologically and metaphysically evocative anchors of interpretation, allowing us to grasp and structure the complexity of our environment.
The grouping of monochromatic LED lines invite us to take part in an explorative tour of our own perception. It is for us to advance beyond our first impressions and opinions towards the true essence and self-understanding of a thing, to change our standpoints and perspectives – for things can be understood in many different ways. What is your point of view?
