The recently renovated Avenue of Stars is the perfect setting in which to enjoy the iconic light of Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour. With many visitors timing their visit post sunset, the serene yet convivial after dark experience created by Speirs + Major plays a major role in the rejuvenation of this public space.

Supporting the character of the Avenue, Speirs + Major have provided light that is both soft and stylish but equally feels safe and secure. Integrated luminous surfaces and naturally placed highlights to the key features help to define the promenade, while at the same time preserving and promoting the views of Hong Kong Island’s skyline.

Calmer spaces with increased light levels have been included to allow visitors to sit and read in comfort, and to encourage people to dwell for longer.

At the sea edge, the sculptural facets of the new cladding are underlined and enhanced by recessed feature lighting. Generally set to a subtle low intensity, this ribbon of light is animated in celebration of civic events. The subtle movement of the light and reflection amplifies the connection between the Avenue and the Harbour, drawing attention to its importance as a valued public space.

Speirs + Major Principal Keith Bradshaw comments:
“We were very conscious of how culturally important the Avenue of Stars is regarding people’s experience of the waterfront. We integrated light very carefully to create the perfect, cinematic atmosphere. The ambience is romantic, but it is also subtle and practical to suit all types of people who come to stroll and to appreciate the incredible views of the Harbour and skyline.”

Keith Bradshaw continues:
“The ribbon of light at the sea edge is visible from the Hong Kong side of the Harbour, highlighting the exciting renovation work and marking out the Avenue as an exciting destination that will be cherished by generations to come.”
